So, 12 months on, it’s time for C of E school nativity activity again, with lots of references to God and prayer, Joseph, Mary and a donkey, and a series of other folk who do lots of walking, following and gift bearing.

In this year of our Lord 2009, there were two school productions to ‘look forward to’, the 3yr olds was Tuesday past and the 5yr olds today. The boy’s play was interesting, if not well acted or scripted (it was a nursery production after all) and, though he claimed to enjoy it, he was about as interested as Turkeys are in a glass of Port after Christmas dinner.

So, moving swiftly on to the 5yr olds sing-a-long-a-school-hall. Well, what a dramatic improvement on last year, both in her involvement and the overall enjoyment factor, for both children and parents. The stage featured the local postie delivering cards from several singing groups, to kind old Mr Senior School Governor resplendent in ‘NoDad’ cardie and grey bushy beard (much like my own from last week – thanks Laura).

Postie, played with great aplomb and stereotypical lapses into tardiness, wandered from group to group listening to their Christmas Carols/Songs before delivering felicitations to old grandpa nodding off in front of his fireplace.

The 5yr olds group was the last, to be found ‘Rocking around the Christmas Tree’, before a more traditional nativity set in – Mary, Joseph, donkey et al.

The star of the show wasn’t the floppy haired year two boy leading the kings to the stable, but an ‘actual’ solo Harp rendition by a very young girl. She started off brilliantly, then wrenched at the hushed audience heartstrings with a 15 second delay whilst she completely forgot the strings and stared lip-quivering at a hole in the ground, before regaining her composure and finishing off to rapturous applause! Well done that girl.

When I say, star of the show, I of course mean joint star of the show. I present to you the brightest light in my night sky – dancing, Morecambe and Wise leg kicking, pink bandana swishing and fingers a twirling. The little smile at the end just cracks me up.

Brilliant video – I attended my 6 year old’s nativity earlier this week and am still recovering from the horror of it. I am planning on writing a blog about that experience once I’ve recovered…

Excellent, having just endured my 4 year olds Christmas play I can empathise. Although we were not allowed to take any pics or video during the play for ‘Health and Safety reasons’, I kid you not.
