The day after my trip to pick up the car from the garage I had to go to the petrol station. It was after school and I had the three year old sat beside me. The 5 year old was busy learning to swim with Gramps.
I got out and filled the car with unleaded then went inside the petrol station. Usually I can see the car from the petrol station but a large van pulled in front of the window. A delivery man got out of the van and carrying a large box came into the petrol station.
The forecourt was fairly busy. I was stood in the queue waiting for the man in front to pay when a car horn beeped.
The delivery driver thinking it must be aimed at his parking said that he’d parked so that people could pass so it couldn’t be aimed at him.
The horn beeped again. The till operator, the van driver and myself all acknowledged the second beep with a rolling of the eyes and I made a comment about some people clearly having no patience. As I moved to the front of the queue the delivery man passed his sheet to be signed to the till operator.
The horn beeped again, twice this time. The delivery man chuntered under his breath about ‘bloody impatient bastards’.
We both left at the same time. Looking around we commented that there wasn’t even anyone there and I crossed the forecourt to my car.
I got in the car and started the engine.
3 year old - “Mummy, what does that button do?”
… and before I could ask which button he was talking about I looked at his wry smile and I just knew.

Cheeky little thing!
My 2yr old loves to jump in the front and “drive” when I unpack the car after food shopping. I then have to get in there, turn off the indicator, turn the radio down and then off. Turn off the headlights, the hazard lights and the interior lights. And then I have to convince him to get out. That’s the most difficult part.

Hilarious. We live down this tiny quiet street, and I do on occasion let my 4 year old sit on my lap and steer for 100 yards or so. She is always torn between steering and beeping.

Oh my two have found the horn and take great joy from “honking” it as they call it. They do it as they know it anoys me – argggggggggggggg

What is it with boys and the car horn?

Opps lol, I can imagine my daughter doing that when she’s older. I’m too paranoid at her young age to leave her in the car though.

My kids used to love doing that too – still do in fact – honking the horn and then pretending it wasn’t them and making me look like a road rage psycho. Lx

In theory we should be so pleased with the way they can push buttons, turn on indicators etc but in somehow, in a car, it’s such a worry!
